As you probably know, Best Price Oil is a “will-call” discount oil company, which means that our Harrisburg, PA area customers are responsible for monitoring the amount of oil in their tanks and calling us for their deliveries.
When should I check my tank?
Managing your home heating oil deliveries involves a degree of vigilance in checking the tank in order to order a heating oil delivery before you are at risk of a run out. Although you don’t have to stand over it like a sentry, the general rule is to check your tank weekly in winter (high use means the fuel level drops quickly) and monthly in summer.
How do I read my tank gauge?
First, find the gauge. Look on top of your tank for a glass or plastic vial. Then check the markers. Read your oil tank gauge like a car gas gauge (Full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, Empty). If your tank has no working gauge, put a clean stick straight down to the bottom, pull it out, and measure the oil line.
When should I refill my tank?
If the level on your fuel tank is near or below 1/4 of the tank (tank gauge method) or when your tank level gets down to around the last 12 inches (dipstick method), it’s time to order your fuel right away. You may order online or call Best Price Oil at 717-564-8237.
Why is all of this so important?
The last thing you want is to run out of heating oil on days like we experienced last winter (remember those?). If you have any questions at all about checking your tank or ordering your oil, just give us a call. And, for answers to more frequently asked questions, visit Best Price Oil’s FAQ page.
